JUPITER: April 2008 By Christopher Go

April 30, 2008 It was mostly overcast this morning. I was only able to scrape 1 image during a brief break in the clouds. Seeing was okay but transparency was poor! I waited for more clearing only to get some light showers. I had to panic and shut everything down! The GRS, Red Jr and STrZ Little Red Spot (LRS) are can be seen in this image. Note the SED north of the GRS at the SEBn. The LRS seems to have stalled while Red Jr is getting closer to the GRS! Europa and her shadow can also be seen the the NTrZ. The NTB at this area is very light. |

April 29, 2008 It was unusually cloudy and rainy during the past week. I got a break today! When I woke up, the sky was totally overcast! I was able to image Jupiter during a short break in the clouds. Seeing was very good this morning but transparency was not great. The SEBs is very complex in this image. The outbreak has really affected the SEB. Note the white spot at the mid-SEB on the right side. The EZ has a lot of activity. The NEB is still dark red. Note the huge white oval on the NEBn. It seems like the merging ovals HAS DISAPPEARED!! The NTB is very dark red. The detail in the northern hemisphere is very good.

April 22, 2008 Seeing was again perfect this morning! The SEB outbreak rising on the right. Note the mid-SEB white spot at the CM! Note the dark blue festoon at the CM! The NEBn white oval on the left is HUGE!! Will it become like the "northern" GRS? There are a lot of small ovals at the NNTB.

April 21, 2008 Another perfect morning! The SEB outbreak is very complex. There are 3 SEB outbreak now! Note the bright area at the CM on the 2nd image. This seems to be the "eye" of the outbreak. The STrZ white spot is very prominent. The STrZ red spot is setting on the left. There is a huge FFR at the SSTB! The NEB seems very quiet here. But it is very red and wide! Note the NNTB white spot. There is an interesting white ring feature preceding it. |

April 20, 2008 Another perfect morning! The SEB outbreak is really complex! It is also huge! Note the white spot in the middle of this outbreak! The GRS is very prominent. Note the STrZ Spot that was right next to the GRS seem to have disappeared! The EZ has many complex festoons. The NEB is very red! The NTB is very prominent.

April 19, 2008 Seeing was perfect this morning. Transparency wasn't great because of thin clouds. Ganymede is rising on the right. It is very dark. Above Ganymede is the NEBn white oval. There are a lot of dark cyclonic ovals on the NEBn. The SEB outbreak is setting on the left. SEB is very complex.

|
April 18, 2008 Seeing was not very good this morning. The 3 Red spots can be seen in this image. Curiously, the red spot that was to the west of the GRS seem to have disappeared. Red Jr and the STrZ little red spot is getting closer to the GRS. The SEBn has a lot of activity. There are a lot of large ovals at the NEBn!

April 17, 2008 It was mostly cloudy this morning. I was only able to scrape a set of image before the sky became overcast. The white oval at the NEB/NTrZ is very prominent. The merging ovals to it's left can't be seen in this image.

April 15, 2008 After the tropical depression, conditions improved. Seeing was perfect this morning. The SEB outbreak has become complex. Note the red spot close to the SPR. The southern hemisphere is getting very pale. The contrast between the red northern hemisphere and the pale south is striking!

April 12, 2008 Seeing was horrible this morning! This is because of a low pressure area east of my place. The merged NEBn/NTZ spot is difficult to see in this image. The SEBn west of the CM seems to be having a dark red streak? Will this spread through the entire SEB?

April 11, 2008 Seeing was just okay today. Not perfect! The 3 red spots of Jupiter are visible here. The GRS is setting on the left while Red Jr and the STrZ LRS is close to the CM. The red ring of Red Jr is getting redder compared to a few weeks ago. Note that the LRS is very red! It has also embedded into the SEBs!! The SEB is very busy with lots of white features probably from the SEB outbreak. The NEBn/NTrZ border has a lot of large white spots! Note that the NNTB is forming a red band.

April 10, 2008 Another day of great seeing! The NEBn/NTZ spots have merged! It's now one big spot like the spot on the right! Will these two spots merge? The dark cyclonic oval south of these two spots might prevent that but if this dark spot moves, both spots should merge and hopefully create a monster spot! It is interesting to note that the northern hemisphere is redder than the southern hemisphere! Note the white spots on the mid SEB close to the CM. Note the SEB outbreak rising on the right!
|
|
|
April 9, 2008 Seeing was again perfect today! Lots of details in Jupiter! Most interesting is the bright white spot at the mid SEB just before the CM. This spot has really brightened! There is a lot of activity at the SEB! Is this part of the outbreak? Note the STrZ and STB ovals! They look very similar! The STB seems to be reddening! Note the long FFR at the SSTB just above the STB white spot. There are a lot of festoon activity at the EZ. The NEB seems to be widening! Note the NEBn white ovals! Note also the details in the norhtern hemisphere! Io is on the right.

April 8, 2008 I woke up late today. Seeing was perfect! The STrZ oval is now very close to the GRS. But it's position is about the same as Anthony Wesley's image a few days ago! Has this spot stalled? The SEB outbreak has really developed now! The SED seems to be trapped in between the GRS and the outbreak! Note the long FFR at the SSTB. Io is at the NEBs just in front of a festoon. Note the dark oval below Io. Note the big red oval at the NNTB at the CM. The contrast with the NNTB is low but it can be detected in this image!

April 4, 2008 I woke up at 4:10am it was cloudy! At 4:30 it was still cloudy. At around 5am it was clear. I rushed to setup. Seeing was incredible this morning! Oval BA and the STrZ little red spot is setting on the left. The other STrZ spot to the right of the CM. The 2nd SEB outbreak can be seen rising on the right! Note the huge white oval at the SSTB. The SEB looks very busy now! The NEB is still dark red here. And so is the NTB! Note the dark red band on the NNTB.

|
April 3, 2008 This was a frustrating morning. It was partially cloudy! I had to image between clouds. Seeing was excellent, but thin clouds reduced transparency! The large NEBn spot setting on the left. But the two merging spots had already set! The SEB outbreak is visible to the right of the CM. The SED seem to be located next to this outbreak! The EZ has a lot of festoon activity! The NTB is light in this region.
